Home from England!!

Hello All!

Well I am back from England and I did not come home empty-handed!!
I have much to share with you all and can't wait to do so....unfortunately our camera broke!!
Arrrrg!! Such a frustrating thing, and such bad timing!
No worries, I will look for a camera to borrow temporarily until we can look into purchasing a new one.

I hate having nothing new to post, but I didn't want you to think I went to London and fell into the Thymes River!! To hold you over until I get a working camera (borrowed or new), here are a few pics from Pinterest.

A few pictures I've been drooling over:

How's that for inspiration??
:)

England here I come!!!

Hello All!

Just wanted to let you know I will be going on vacation in England for the next two weeks.
I know I've been kinda absent the last couple of weeks, it's been busy preparing my sons to stay with their
grandparents and then preparing Mike and I for our international trip.

Wish us safe travels.
I look forward to catching up with you all and sharing with you our finds from England!!

{Old Black Shutters Making My Heart Flutter}

Hello All!

Sharing with you today a small change that I think made a big impact.
I have been holding onto a pair of old black shutters, unsure of where to put them (not sure why it took me so long to figure out where to put them??).
Finally, I decided they'd be perfect in my dining room.

I am very pleased with the results!

My husband found that wooden cutting board at a local thrift shop recently,
he knows the way to my heart. :)

Turns out it is from the 1800's! {more on this later}
We love great old finds like these!

I think the dining room is finally coming together.

It's all in the details: an antique wooden bucket , a vintage cabinet, an old wire basket with burlap piled inside, and a 1800's wooden cutting board. Sensing a theme here??

I haven't finished the cabinet yet, so more on that later, but I have painted it with chalk paint and stapled a vintage fabric I found at an estate sale to the inside of the windows.

Best part of these shutters??
I picked them up off someone's curb during our large item pick up!
Score.

Hope you enjoyed!
I am hoping to get one more post out before our big trip to England!
Happy Blogging Ya'll.

Sun Colored Amethyst Glass

Hello All!

Today I am sharing with you a lovely find!

Ever heard of sun colored amethyst glass??
I hadn't until one of my good friends showed me a mason jar that had turned
from clear to a light lavender color after being exposed to sunlight for many years.
Too cool right??

After my friend had shown me her mason jar, I was really hoping to find an amethyst treasure of my own.
Luckily, I recently found this sun colored amethyst bottle at a local antique shop!
I paid $9 dollars for it, I won't typically pay that much for old glass bottles and jars. I have a small collection started and have to get kind of particular if I don't want them flowing out my front door. :)

I found some weeds in my backyard to stick in the bottle.
Makes me laugh, I am sharing pics of an old glass bottle sporting "weeds."
But aren't they cute?? I thought they were a great touch.

I actually really like this "weed."
I'm not sure what it is, anyone out there know?

After doing a little research I was able to learn that this bottle was likely made between 1908 and 1913.

So of course my new favorite find is sitting next to our bed.
Thanks for stopping by!

Scrapbook Paper, Mod Podge, and an Old Trunk

Hello All!

Here is my latest creation:
An Old Trunk given to me that I re-papered with scrapbook paper,
vintage advertisements, and mod podge.

The before picture:

Some vintage looking scrapbook paper...

Some really cool vintage advertisements I printed off from

Viola!

A super simple project.

I first peeled as much of the old paper as I could then vacuumed it out with a shop vac.

I used a damp rag to moisten the scrapbook paper before I slathered on the Mod Podge.
*Getting it damp helps the paper to mold to the surface*
I would also wipe the paper down with the damp rag after I applied it to the trunk.

The vintage advertisements were just printed on normal printing paper, so I actually Mod Podged the ads to a plain piece of paper first. This was done so that you couldn't see the pattern of the scrapbook paper peeking through the ads.

Once all the papers were in place I lightly painted over the whole thing with Mod Podge,
then waited for it to dry!!

I love quick and easy projects like this!
And because I already had all the supplies this project cost me ZERO dollars!

Choosing not to paint the trunk was a hard decision for me,
but I really wanted it to keep its original farmhouse look. So I  thought going with a vintage
paper theme on the inside was a  good way to keep her looking...vintage!

Now my big ol' trunk can finally serve it's purpose...
storage.
Hope you enjoyed!
